Vanessa Redgrave Recognized Men’s Struggle

On 10th November 2017 the most distinguished English actress and politically involved Vanessa Redgrave visited the appreciated Swedish talkshow Skavlan, named and hosted by the Norwegian journalist Fredrik Skavlan. Vanessa – Oscar-awarded, honored the Order of the British Empire, actively involved in the British Worker’s Revolutionary Party, an ambassador of UNHCR, and just recently rewarded the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award, etc. – talked among other important topics about her new documentary about the still ongoing but, as it seems in the media, forgotten refugee crisis.

Moreover, she also humbly explained that she does not call herself a feminist, but a woman and rather a suffraget, recognizing the urge for womens’ rights to live under the same conditions as men. She then added or better than men, since mens’ conditions are not so good after all. Which indicate a precious, beautifully open-minded, independent and unbiased awareness regarding gender issues that is worth attention and, sadly enough, celebration!

Another topic of interest for our cause, Vanessa brought up the issue of money destroying so many marriages. “Money is the root to all evil”, she answered to the host’s question why she married her second husband so late in life, although they since long had a son together. Obviously, once there had been a big “falling out”, but they had come together again. She further explained that they had left the question of money totally out of their marriage — “We did not had it consectrated”, as she put it. Then Fredrik Skavlan asked her:

— So who are paying when you eat at restaurants?

— Well, we share it, don’t we? I mean, that’s beside the point. It’s certainly not the man — that’s very old-fashion views!

What we all could witness that night thus was wisdom words from a grand lady that we all should remember and live by if we are interested in good relationships and a happy marriage. Words coming from someone that Dr. Warren Farrell probably would call an empowered feminist, rather than victim or competitive feminist. That kind of feminist that both women and men simply can not help loving!
